I changed the plugs and put new battery terminals on it made sure it has plenty of gas in it.
My 642 with ford 4 cyl has had a starting problem for a year or so. the engine is old and worn out so I removed the engine and had it rebuilt. everything in it is new and the bolt on parts (carb, oil pump,ect.) are also new. I have it back together and it runs great. It still has the hard to start problem that needs addressed now.

My 642B bobcat will not start. I started it up the other day and it ran fine, I got out of it and left it running and it quit and I went back to start it and nothing, turns over and over but does not start. So, my questions are: 1. Does anyone have a service manual PDF they can share for this Bobcat? 2. Does anyone have suggestions he can try which I can pass on to him to get this thing running again.
The flywheel ring gear replacement was just the result of having a starter that grinded some of the time, and not dealing with it properly by replacing the starter. This problem was exacerbated by continually cranking it hard to start it, when it was really in need of a carburetor overhaul.
My Bobcat 642B gas w/mitsubishi motor doesn't start in the cold. Had my mechanic boil the carb out and it has a new inline filter. When it was in the heated shop, it started right up and ran great. Theres a good chance on that vintage machine that the bushings in the control rods and between the steer levers on the rockshaft near your calves is all shot. Replacing them will be a huge help. Theres a source on ebay who makes all sort of parts for them. We had one , good little machine. They have the Mitsubushi gas motor in them that are really good. Only thing we had problems with is an occasional starter ring. These machines are really basic and not to bad to work on.
Reset that and points to business card thickness and it sounds great (loud). When using the steering sticks it makes whiny/grindy noise, not sure if that is normal or not for a 1986 bobcat. But I'll be checking all fluid levels and greasing all fittings next.
