The tracks will certainly tear into the side walls at times. Ideally, running airless tires would be the best solution if your going to have them on for any length of time. That of course will at 3k or more to the cost of running them, but I agree that especially in slippery conditions like hilly, snow covered areas. Over the tire tracks are such a hassle. I had them on an LS170 i was using. The paddles that keep them on the tires kept popping the tires off the rims and then taking the tracks on/off was a 45 minute project each time. The rubber pads are held on by two 1 and a half inch bolt which isnt sturdy whatsoever. They would always fall off. I'd go tracks for any grading, you get a lot more area on the ground to keep ya stable. I don't even rent the wheeled ones anymore. Traction limited, bouncy, tougher to grade with. The over the tire tracks are interesting but you still have potentially flats to deal with, and the wheelbase remains about the same. I have used a Cat 236B skid steer that had over the tires track for over 2000 Hrs and the chains were still good. Of course the oils were changed on schedule and the tracks not kept too tight. I add a min cost of more per hour for a CTL over a a wheeled skid. (I do not run OTT's anymore) The reason I switched from OTT's to a CTL was simple convenience. I got tired of the problems you have with OTT's. One problem I hated was changing a flat tire, take off the tracks, fix tire and put tracks back on. That was a major pain. I recently put OTT tracks on and think for general ranch type work a wheeled machine with OTT's is the best of both worlds.
